Caving Access: Three Peaks Area

The access information on this page supplements the guidebook' Northern Caves Vol. 2 The Three Peaks'

FOUNTAINS FELL

Closed season; 1st November until 2nd week-end of May

GINGLING HOLE & HAMMER POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit (see page 1:7). Permit must be produced at Rainscar House (Mr. Coates). Applications to the C.N.C.C. meets secretary before 1st February each year, when list is approved by Mr. Coates.

FOR ALL OTHER HOLES ON RAINSCAR LAND

Ask for permission from Mr. Coates at Rainscar House

MAGNETOMETER, FORNAGH GILL, ANTLER HOLE & ECHO HOLE

For permission call at; Neals Ing, Mr. Caton. A small fee is payable to park on the farm land.

DALEHEAD POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit (see page 1:7). Permit must be produced at Dalehead House (Mr. Mike Atkinson), Litton Road, Stainforth.

PENYGHENT

PENYGHENT POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit (see page 1:7). Permit must produced at Dalehead House (Mr. Mike Atkinson), Litton Road, Stainforth.

HULL POT & LITTLE HULL POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit (see page 1:7). There is no vehicular access along the track.

HUNT POT & HIGH HUNT POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit (see page 1:7). Permit must be shown at; Holme Farm camp site, Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

SELL GILL HOLES

Call at, Holme Farm camp site, Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

COWSKULL POT & CROSS POT

Mr. P.Wood, Top Farm (2nd right after New Houses).

THE ALLOTMENT

NICK POT & SULBER POT

Call at; South House Farm, near Selside, Mr.R.Kenyon.

JUNIPER GULF, LONG KIN EAST, RIFT POT & MARBLE SINK Etc.

Write for permission to; Dr.J.Farrer, Ingleborough Estate Office, Clapham, via Lancaster, LA2 8DR. Tel; 015242 51302 (week days 8.30am-1.00pm). Give plenty of notice and enclose S.A.E. Parking is permitted near Crumack Farm. Map & compass should be carried for your return. Closed season; 31st March-1st October. C.N.C.C. membership an advantage.

GAPING GILL

ALL POTS including: GAPING GILL , BAR POT, CAR POT, GRANGE RIGG POT, DISAPPOINTMENT POT, STREAM PASSAGE POT, FLOOD ENTRANCE POT, HURNELL MOSS POT.

Access as above. Do not get changed in Clapham Village, use official car park or change on the fell. There is no right of way for vehicles up Clapdale Lane or Long Lane.

FOX HOLES

Contact; B.Jarman Tel; 015242 51242, for the key.

NEWBY MOSS

ALL POTS

Write for permission to; Dr.J.Farrer as above, giving plenty of notice and enclose a S.A.E.

WHITE SCAR

DOWLASS MOSS AREA & QUAKING POT

Approach by public foot path via Crina Bottom.

SKIRWITH CAVE

For permission call at; Landale, Cold Cotes, Clapham, Lancaster, LA2 8HZ, or phone Mrs.Smith 015242 41788.  9am-6pm  Do not block gate way, agricultural access is required at all times.

TATHAM WIFE HOLE & AREA

On common land, but, shortest access route crosses land farmed by Mr.Guy, Dale House, Chapel-Le-Dale. This is permitted provided that the route indicated in 'Northern Caves Vol. 2' is adhered to. From old Granite quarry make for top left corner of pasture where path ascends scars to stile over wall.

WHITE SCAR CAVE

Apply to; The Manager, White Scar Cave.

CHAPEL-LE-DALE

BLACK SHIVER POT, MEREGILL HOLE, SUNSET HOLE Etc.

Approach from Southerscales, or from the Hill Inn following the Ingleborough foot path. There is no right of way from the road near Gods Bridge.

SOUTHERSCALES POT

Approach via Great Douk Cave, as above, use original entrance on S.W. side of wall. New entrance now lies in nature reserve, (see Park Fell).

JINGLE POT, HURTLE POT, MIDGE HOLE, JOINT HOLE Etc

Normally no restrictions, but as these caves are only of interest to divers, contact C.D.G. northern section, for current situation.

WEATHERCOTE CAVE & ELLERBECK HOLE

No access at present.

ALUM POT AREA

WASHFOLD POT

Club access only with C.N.C.C. permit. Apply to; Penyghent & Fountains Fell meets secretary. Permit should be shown to local warden if requested. approach pot via path indicated on the permit.

ALUM POT & LONG CHURN CAVES

Park in lane leading to Pot and call at Selside Farm (small fee). Do not block the lane  Beware of thieves.

PARK FELL

BARGH'S CAVE & POT, KELD BANK SINK & SCAR CLOSE CAVE AREA

These caves now lie in Scar close Nature Reserve. Permission from; Senior Site Manager, English Nature, Archibold House, Archibold Terr. Newcastle, NE2 1EG. Tel: 0191 281 6316.

BRUNTSCAR

BRUNTSCAR CAVE

Call at; Bruntscar Hall. Do not go through old building to cave.

ELLERBECK AREA

Call at; Ellerbeck Farm, Mr.Brennand.

GATEKIRK CAVES & HAWS GILL AREA

Call at; Broadrake Farm, approach via foot path & river bed.

MALHAM

PIKEDAW CALAMINE CAVERNS

Mr. J.Heseltine, Hill Top farm, Malham. No need to call or write in view of proximity to public path. No vehicles allowed. The entrance cover must be replaced.
